Great "Mad Men" Design for Less - Mid Century Picker from Philly Scores Hot Finds!

My wife will tell you, my kids will tell you... all I do, day in and day out, is hunt for amazing mid-century designs for my online store "Mid Century Masters".

I started collecting mid-century modern furniture and decor when I was about 28 years old (I have just had my 50th birthday), so it's been a 22 year obsession! Back then, I had no money and no clue, but I did love the clean lines and sinuous shapes from the designers and artists working in that era. Growing up in the 60's and 70's, my parent's and all their friends had that furniture. Who'da thunk it - my parents are cool! They still have a terrific Nakashima dining room table and chairs (custom made for them in 1982). I visit it diligently every weekend when they have us over for dinner. I truly feel the items I buy, sell and love are pieces of art. Designers such as Florence Knoll, Charles and Ray Eames, Adrian Pearsall, Milo Baughman, Phillip Lloyd Powell, Paul Evans, Paul McCobb, Gilbert Rohde and George Nakashima were and are innovators of design, as well as artists.

Nakashima and other furniture craftsmen inspired a whole new modern aesthetic. It proved to be so popular, that there have been many mass produced copies. Today, there exists a great deal of lesser quality mid-century items that people assume are valuable because they have a modern look, and were made in the 50's or 60's. It has taken me over 20 years to understand the difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary in mid-century furniture and decor.

Everyday I'm out there hunting for mid century treasures at auctions, flea markets and homes from Washington D.C. to New York state. At this point, it's in my blood (literately, my heart starts to beat fast when I see a good piece). The items I sell are the antiques of the future, a good investment, as well as a sign of your good taste.

Attention Designers, Antique Dealers and Buyers - In addition to what I have in the store, if you are looking for a specific piece, please contact me at amargulies62@gmail.com, and I will do my best to hunt it down. I will be happy to be your mid-century shopper. A good example of what I can do is the case of the CEO from a major record label in New York who ordered a Kagan conference room table and a Pearsall cocktail table for his new office that I was able to obtain for him at a most attractive price. And, as always, if you have some pieces to sell, please call me at 610-247-0333 or e-mail me for the opportunity to give you the fairest offer.
